Payroll Officer
Our client is looking to grow their payroll team in early 2025. The APS5 Payroll Officer ensures all payroll transactions are compliant with APS guidelines, tax requirements, and other applicable regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of EBA’s. Proven payroll experience for Australian Public Service employees and the ability to integrate quickly in a fast-paced team environment.

About the Role:
- Process and maintain accurate payroll records for APS staff, ensuring timely and accurate payment of wages, entitlements, and deductions.
- Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, including the Fair Work Act, taxation laws, and public sector industrial agreements.
- Assist with the preparation and reconciliation of payroll reports, including annual leave, sick leave, and other employee entitlements.
- Respond to payroll-related inquiries from employees, providing assistance and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Maintain confidentiality of employee information and uphold privacy standards in all payroll matters.
- Work closely with HR and finance teams to ensure accurate employee data and payroll information.
- Assist with year-end processes such as PAYG summaries, tax file number declarations, and superannuation contributions.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to payroll processes and systems.
- Previous experience in payroll processing.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of EBA’s
- Sound knowledge of payroll systems, Australian taxation, and superannuation regulations.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of confidentiality and integrity in handling sensitive employee information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and payroll software.
- Relevant qualifications in finance, accounting, or human resources.
- Knowledge of APS-specific payroll systems and procedures.
