Job description

We are seeking motivated and detail-oriented Payroll Officers (L2/L3/L4) for multiple opportunities with our state government client.  These roles focus on processing payroll transactions within a fast-paced environment, ensuring accuracy and compliance. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain or build upon your payroll experience. 

Candidates without payroll officer experience will be considered for lower-level positions. These candidates must have solid administrative experience and possess great work ethic and attention to detail. Experience with payroll systems such as Ascender are highly advantageous. 

Payroll Officer Opportunities (Levels 2, 3, & 4) – Temporary Casual Contracts 

Rate: $35-55 per hour plus Super (depending on relevant experience and level of position) 

Hours: Full-time – 38 hours per week 
Duration: Initial 3 month contract with possible 2-3 month extension 
Location: Perth CBD 
Type: Temporary casual contract (no leave entitlements – casual loading included in rate) 

Flexible hybrid working arrangements: Candidates can work from home up to 50% of their hours 

Key Responsibilities (All Levels) 
  • Process payroll transactions efficiently and accurately within specified timeframes, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures. 
  • Provide advice and support to internal clients on payroll-related matters, including interpreting relevant policies, awards, and legislation. 
  • Maintain the integrity of the Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS) by updating and managing accurate payroll records. 
  • Respond to payroll queries in a customer-focused manner, delivering consistent and clear advice. 
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of payroll services by identifying areas for process enhancement and participating in relevant training. 
Additional Responsibilities by Level: 
  • Level 4: Assist in coordinating payroll team operations, providing guidance and support to staff. Conduct research and analysis to resolve complex payroll issues and contribute to the development of policies and procedures. Engage with stakeholders to ensure system compliance and improvements in payroll practices. 
  • Level 2: Provide accurate data entry and transaction processing for payroll, ensuring records are maintained in compliance with policies and legislative requirements. Respond to general payroll enquiries and support payroll officers in end-to-end processes. 
Essential Criteria (All Levels) 
  • Experience using a computerised HRMIS and demonstrated ability to accurately process payroll transactions. 
  • Knowledge of relevant Acts, Awards, Agreements, and the ability to interpret and apply them effectively. 
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with a focus on customer service. 
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced and changing environment, maintaining attention to detail while meeting deadlines. 
  • A commitment to continuous learning and the ability to adapt to new processes and procedures. 
Additional Criteria by Level:  
  • Level 4: Experience in coordinating payroll services in a complex organisation, with leadership or supervisory experience in payroll operations.
  • Level 2: Strong focus on accuracy and adherence to established procedures, with the ability to escalate issues appropriately when required.
