Job description

Our state government client is seeking numerous Desktop Support Officers for an exciting Windows 11 upgrade project. 

Title: Desktop Support Officer

Rate: $36-45 per hour plus Super (depending on experience)  
Hours: Full-time – 37.5 hours per week 
Duration: Initial 3–6-month contract with possible extension depending on project rollout 
Location: Perth and occasional travel to regional sites (travel, meals and accommodation paid for by client) 

Type: Temporary casual contract (no leave entitlements – casual loading included in rate) 

Background: 
Approximately 1600 devices will undergo upgrades to Windows 11 between February and October 2025. The rollout of Windows 11 will be conducted in stages, and each stage will require a different number of desktop support officers.  

The majority of the upgrades will take place in Perth metro area, however some of the devices are located in the regional sites and travel will be required to these locations. The candidates will also be required to work on the PC Replacement Program, which will be operating in parallel with the Windows 11 upgrade. 

The requirements: 
The client will provide manuals for all tasks listed below:
• Perform upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11 (approximately 1600 devices) 
• Perform Intune onboarding for the regional sites 
• Travel to the regional offices and recreation camps to perform the upgrade (approximately 150 devices) 
• Conduct assets stock take of all devices that are within the scope of this project across metro and regional sites 
• Conduct assets stock take of all corporate mobile phones issued to users across metro and regional sites 
• Confirm whether all corporate mobile phones have been enrolled into Microsoft Intune across metro and regional sites (and enroll any corporate phone if it hasn't already been done) 
• Build and deploy new machines (in instances where the current machine is not compatible with Windows 11 and needs to be replaced) 
• Provide support services before and after deployment 
• Assist in the disposal of out-of-support devices 

 TRAVEL AND ACCOMODATION EXPENSES: 
• Planned travel and accommodation costs will be arranged and paid for by the client. 

 REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, OR EXPERIENCE 
• Familiarity with Microsoft Intune 
• Basic troubleshooting skill to track down Intune autopilot enrolment/network issues and escalate to Systems Team  
• Experience in deploying SOE images to laptops/desktops from Dell support assist cloud portal or Windows 11 usb boot media 
• Experience using in-place upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11 OS 
• Basic understanding of GPOs (Device, baseline security and user policies) 
• Ability to run basic PowerShell scripts 
• Ability to follow SOE build process and instructions from internal documentation 
• Ability to proceed with documenting issues/errors and assist/escalate with Systems Team to find specific fix 
• General fault finding and diagnosing issues in Windows 10/11 devices and Microsoft Office applications 
• Ability to install software packages as required 
• Basic Active Directory and Azure Active Directory knowledge. 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS 
• The regional premises are located in the following areas, and they are planned to be upgraded in June and July (in parallel with finalisation of the metro sites): Broome, Karratha, Carnarvon, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Northam, Mandurah, Bunbury, Quaranup (Albany surrounds), Albany, Bickley, Woodman Point. 
• It is estimated that the rollout of Windows 11 will be finished by 31 July 2025. This date may change depending on how the upgrade progresses. 
• The notice period provided by the client to the candidate regarding the end of contract shall be 2 business days. 

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS 
Full working rights within Australia for the duration of the contract 
Current National Police Clearance or able to obtain if successful 
Current ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence
