Key Responsibilities:
As a Trades Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting maintenance operations across a variety of assets, including water, drainage, and wastewater systems. Your duties will include:
- Assisting with scheduled and unscheduled (breakdown) maintenance and repairs on various assets
- Working under direct or indirect supervision to carry out basic assembly, inspections, and repairs
- Performing tasks such as the assembly and dismantling of equipment, transporting tools and materials, and preparing work areas
- Operating and maintaining specialized tools and plant equipment
- Assisting with pump installations, alignments (using laser and dial indicators), and valve maintenance
- Supporting the completion of safety inspections and following detailed work instructions
- Participating in rolling rosters, standby, overtime, and night shifts as required
Essential Appointment Criteria:
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Construction White Card
- Confined Space and Working at Heights certification
- Current National HR Class Driver’s License
- Experience working in a workshop or on-site environment (e.g., welding, fabrication, fitting, machining) assisting skilled tradespeople such as Boilermakers, Mechanical Fitters, and Electricians
- Willingness to obtain Cert III National Water Package Certificate
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability
- Experience with high-risk licenses (e.g., Dogging, Vehicle Crane, Forklift) is desirable but not essential
- Experience with Excavators or Bobcats is advantageous
- Ability to participate in shift work, night shifts, and overtime when required
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to safety regulations
