Job description

Our state government client is seeking experienced candidates for a Senior Taxation Officer position for a 6-month temporary casual contract in their Perth CBD office. 
 
Rate: $50-60 per hour plus Super  
Duration: 6 months  
Location: Perth CBD 
Hours: Full-time – 37.5 hours per week 
Start: ASAP (within next couple of weeks)   

Type: Temporary casual contract (no leave entitlements – casual loading included in rate)  

About the Role 
As part of the Taxation Services Branch team, the successful applicant will be expected to:  
• Work to improve communication and model integrity and respect in all interactions.  
• Operate within the Department's Corporate Governance Framework, policies and procedures and ensure effective transparency and accountability of all Department activity.  
• Operate within the chain of command to coordinate activities required to meet the Department’s strategic objectives.  
• Work collaboratively to achieve common goals and best practice and facilitate business improvements as appropriate.  
• Facilitate cultural and management reforms within the Department through leadership and engagement.  
• Represent the Department’s interest on committees and working groups as required. 

Duties 
• Manages the taxation obligations of complex clients. Which includes review of taxation information available from various sources, preparation and lodgement of income tax returns, activity statements, amendments, objections and liaison with the ATO on various taxation issues.  
• Provides coaching and job training to staff on taxation matters.  
• Provides a specialist, timely and efficient taxation service to the staff and clients and ensures that ATO lodgement programs are met.  
• Conducts research and analysis, considers and recommends options to meet client needs and to enable informed decision making.  
• Participates in the coordination and presentation of training to staff on taxation matters.  
• Ensures compliance with ATO Taxation Legislation, Regulations, Ruling, guidelines and policies and procedures for taxation related matters.  
• Contributes to the development and implementation of operational policies and procedures for taxation related matters.  
• Collaborates with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure taxation activities are integrated productively.  
• Other duties as required in accordance with strategic objectives, business plans, local workload priorities and performance management plans 

 Essential Criteria  
• Demonstrated understanding of, and broad experience in taxation issues.  
• Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation.  
• Demonstrated experience in using ATO taxation return preparation and lodgement software.  
• Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field and/or significant relevant experience, knowledge and skills. 
• Experience in taxation of deceased estates and testamentary trusts (highly desirable).  

Other Requirements 
Current National Police Clearance (dated within 6 months)
