The Role
The Policy, Programs & Engagement Division – is responsible for informing policies, managing external stakeholder relationships, and being the place of excellence for driving national programs, portfolio priorities and outcomes.
The EL1 Project Manager will be accountable under broad direction, to perform very complex work that provides the planning, leadership and management of projects and project teams within the Agency.
Key duties will include but are not limited to:
- Provide project management expertise across a broad range of project activities required to successfully achieve the outcomes
- Accountable for the achievement of their own and team outcomes, monitoring team progress and following through to deliver quality outcomes;
- Responsible for engaging with risk and perform risk management activities including planning, leading and managing the mitigation response and treatment actions.
- Responsible to build project teams capability through coaching, providing performance feedback and encouraging career development that enables the effective delivery of projects outcomes.
- Accountable to plan and manage allocated staff, supplier, physical or cloud based assets and financial resources within a project; developing appropriate controls, monitoring achievement against plans and adjusting plans to meet changing demands.
- Perform research and analysis that involve complex to very complex project activities to identify, analyse and interpret project requirements that may be conflicting, selecting and taking the appropriate course of action.
- Engage and collaborate with key stakeholders to achieve project outcomes; responding to their needs ensuring stakeholder expectations are clearly articulated, documented and understood by the project delivery team.
- Communicate and negotiate with project stakeholders to resolve conflict in the context of escalated, sensitive or difficult issues
- Project Management qualifications and/or tertiary qualifications and/or 5+ years applying project management skills and knowledge on medium to large projects.
- Certification in PRINCE2 / PRINCE2 Agile and PMP and experience in public service are highly desirable
- Have demonstrated ability to apply strong project management expertise and knowledge to delivering digital projects and ensuring adherence to Agency frameworks.
- Be proficient in managing projects using various methodologies such as waterfall, agile and a hybrid of both.
- Be highly adept at managing project schedules, risks, assumptions, issues and dependencies to project completion.
- Proven experience of strong stakeholder management, engagement and collaboration across suppliers, other government bodies and cross-functional teams in a matrix organisation.
- Have extensive understanding of government policies, processes and compliance requirements and its impacts for project delivery.
To be eligible it is essential that applicants hold Australian Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline Security Clearance.
