Job Title: Financial Accountant
Employer: DFP Recruitment Client
Position Type: 6 month Full Time Casual Temporary Contract – ASAP start!
Pay Rate: Approx $55-75 per hour + Super (Level 6)
Location: Perth, WA 6000
Key Responsibilities;
  • Preparation of Annual Financial statements including notes and supporting documentation in accordance with all Australian Accounting Standards.
  • Preparation of Whole of Government Strategic Information Management System (SIMS) reporting
  • Ensures the integrity of the financial ledgers (i.e. General Ledger, Fixed Assets, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable), appropriate financial controls are in place and reconciliations are regularly performed and reviewed.
  • Maintains an awareness of legislative and policy frameworks applicable to public sector agencies in Western Australia, relating to financial and accounting matters including Financial Management Act 2006 and Treasurers Instructions and relevant Australian Accounting Standards.
  • Assist in development, implementation and evaluation financial and accounting policies for the Commission including review of Financial Management Manual
  • Undertakes complex financial analysis and provides specialist financial advice and support.
  • Assist with completion of statutory and other reporting requirements.
  • Identification and implementation of process improvement opportunities within the financial function.
  • Provides financial assistance to the Finance team during the analysis of significant budget variances
  • Liaises with internal and external auditors during the conduct of internal financial audits and end-of-financial year auditing process.
  • Builds and maintains effective communication and working relationships across internal and external stakeholders, to ensure consistent application of financial and accounting policy across the Commission
  • Builds and maintains effective working relationships with external parties (e.g. Health Support Services, Department of Treasury, Office of the Auditor General) on the provision of business services and ensures appropriate liaison, consultation and negotiation occurs to meet the Commission’s objectives.
  • Undertakes other duties as required.
 
Essential to be successful in this role:  
  • Extensive experience with financial reporting and accounting, in a complex organisation.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and evaluating financial and accounting policy
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the public sector legislative framework, procedural requirements, Government policy, the Government budget process and contemporary financial management practice.
  • Well-developed communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills with the ability to effectively consult and provide advice and support to relevant stakeholders.
  • Well-developed conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills with a proven ability in business process design, development and implementation.
  • Possession of, or progress towards a relevant qualification (CPA, CA, MIPA or equivalent).
  • Current valid NPC or ability to obtain
