About the role:
We are seeking a suitably experienced and qualified Project Manager for our Federal Government client on a 12-month assignment with a possible 12-month extension. An NV1 Security Clearance is required, and the hourly rate will be determined based on candidate expectation and their suitability for the role.
 
Our client has identified that this position is suited to a highly dynamic Project Manager (non-ICT) who loves to solve challenges and work in collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders. With strong experience in project design and management; financial acumen and expertise in leading procurement and data driven reporting will be key assets for the Project Manager to be successful.
 
The Project Manager will be working in a team of APS staff members and contractors and under the direct supervision of the Program Lead. Someone with strong expertise in designing and implementing complex program that includes multiple projects in parallel, procurement and skills in both qualitative and quantitative reporting will thrive in this role. Having formal qualifications in project management is highly desirable for the role.
 
Key responsibilities:
The Project Manager will take responsibility for end-to-end project management, contract establishment, contract management, monitoring of project progress and reporting in relation to multiple projects.  
More specifically, the successful applicant will;
  • Promote and ensure the use of appropriate project management techniques, methodologies, and tools to ensure quality project outcomes are delivered.
  • Lead the project initiation, design, implementation, and closure in collaboration with relevant internal and external stakeholders
  • Develop the procurement plan and all the necessary procurement documentation in compliance with the Department’s procurement policy and the Commonwealth Procurement Rules.
  • Manage, monitor, and report on project related trends and performance against plans, schedules and budget.
  • Providing guidance to Project Support Officer/Junior Project Manager
 
Skills required:
  • Strong expertise in project management; relevant training and certifications in project management will be highly regarded
  • Tertiary qualification in any relevant field
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing program and projects in Australia and overseas; more specifically in the Pacific region (desirable)
  • Strong command of Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Outlook) and MS Project.
  • Strong ability to critically think and identify collaborative solutions to problems
  • Supervision and management skills
