Job description

We are currently working with QBuild in finding an experienced Workplace Health & Safety Advisor for the Cairns Office.


Reporting to the Principal WHS Advisor, Far North Queensland, you will be responsible for providing service and advice on the diverse range of WHS activities and environmental technical matters relating to the building, construction, and maintenance industry.
 

As the Workplace Health & Safety Advisor, your responsibilities will include:
  • Conduct site WHS&E audits and inspections to ensure compliance for both QBuild and contractor delivered work.
  • Provide WHS&E advice and guidance to department operational, supervisory and management staff regarding QBuild Safety Management System (SMS) processes and requirements, and legislative compliance.
  • Assist with the development and delivery of information sessions educating on the relevant WHS&E information and activities to department staff.
  • Assist with reporting and investigating QBuild WHS&E incidents and contractor notifiable incidents.
  • Assist with the worker rehabilitation and return to work programs, under the guidance of the RRTW Advisor or WHS Manager.      Assist with coordinating with the emergency planning and response activities for QBuild offices and depots.
  • Assist with the development, review and implementation of SWMSs, risk assessments and WHS Management plans.
  • Assist with regular WHS&E reporting for regions and business. 
  • Assist with the delivery of a range of health and safety programs, to enable a service that is responsive to the needs of the stakeholders.

To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • Knowledge of industry, or similar industry, to understand the hazards, risks and control measures.
  • Ability to interpret WHS legislation, including relevant legislation, Codes of Practice, Australian Standards / International Standards, to provide advice and guidance to stakeholders.
  • Ability to build and sustain positive relationships with a range of stakeholders including employees, managers and other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated capacity to liaise in a clear and concise manner using structured written and oral communication.
  • WHS&E experience in construction, maintenance, or similar industry and Certificate IV in WHS

This role offers an hourly rate of $66.23 per hour + Super, an immediate start and an initial 3-month engagement with a possibility of an extension.
