Key Responsibilities:
- Leads and coordinates the development of WHS safety management system, policies, and procedures that are practical and implementable while complying with applicable legislation, standards and codes.
- Establishes effective relationships with key internal stakeholders, contractors and other relevant stakeholders to promote, coordinate and develop strategies, actions and outcomes to enhance WHS services covering the incident and hazard management, injury management, workers’ compensation, and employee wellbeing.
- Provides expert advice to the Executive team, senior leaders, workers and other relevant stakeholders on complex WHS issues.
- Complete WHS Executive reports using the clients defined report format.
- Leads the work health and safety function (including where applicable, crossover with visitor safety) in partnership with managers, contractors and the Health & Safety Committee.
- Review and make recommendations for the continuous improvement of the clients work health & safety function.
- Review and report on hazards, incidents and near misses (HIN), manage referral to relevant directors and managers for corrective actions and follow-up where required.
- Conduct investigations on Hazards, Incidents and Near Misses, where required.
- Compile data to meet Work Health and Safety reporting requirements, including for the purpose of reporting to the Corporate Executive and Board.
- Conduct research and analysis and recommend options to resolve complex safety matters.
- Coordinate regular workplace safety inspections and risk assessments and evaluate the Work Health and Safety compliance with legislative requirements and accreditation.
- Oversee the implementation of induction/orientation activities in relation to work health and safety.
- Evaluate contractor tenders to ensure that Work Health and Safety systems meet the required standard.
- Inspect contractor activities to ensure contractor compliance.
- Prepare Work Health and Safety promotional and educational materials for internal distribution.
- Arrange and coordinate training in safety matters.
- Effectively manage work related injuries to employees.
- Manage Workers Compensation Claims effectively and efficiently.
- Implement and manage rehabilitation and return to work programs.
Essential Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience in delivery of work health and safety programs within a multidisciplinary service organisation.
- Demonstrated knowledge of risk management principles and practices including knowledge of the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 and its application in the work environment.
- Strong written and oral communication skills to enable effective communication with external bodies and all levels of staff.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Demonstrated organisational and time management skills including the ability to work under time constraints without supervision.
- Applies and promotes the principles of equity, diversity and work health and safety in the workplace.
- Current valid NPC or ability to obtain one
- Attainment of, or substantial progress towards, formal qualification in Work Health and Safety
