A leading Federal Government agency is seeking a forward-thinking, experienced finance professional to join their high-performing team as an Assistant Director – Finance Business Partner (EL1). As a key part of the Finance Business Partnering function, you will collaborate closely with senior leaders across the organisation, providing strategic financial insights and helping drive better decision-making. You’ll lead team, manage key financial deliverables, and influence policy and process improvements.


This opportunity is a 6 month labour hire contract, with the potential to be extended; based in the heart of Canberra City. Please note that this role is open only to Australian Citizens with the ability to clear a Criminal History Check.


What you’ll be doing
  • Leading end-of-month reporting and financial analysis for your allocated groups.
  • Providing strategic financial advice to support planning and risk management
  • Driving budget development and financial forecasting
  • Leading updates to financial policy, controls, and procedures
  • Managing and mentoring a high-performing finance team
  • Leading or contributing to key finance projects across the organisation
  • Building strong partnerships with internal stakeholders


About You
You’re a confident communicator, skilled at turning data into insights, and passionate about making finance work for the bigger picture. You bring strong attention to detail and a strategic mindset to everything you do.


What you’ll need to succeed
  • Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline
  • CA ANZ or CPA membership
  • Demonstrated experience delivering complex financial outcomes.
  • Leadership and stakeholder management experience, ideally in government or a large organisation
