Traffic Escort Warden – State Government Client

Role Overview
The Traffic Escort Warden plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient movement of oversized loads on public roads. This position requires extensive regional travel, often for extended periods (up to 2 weeks), with the majority of the work conducted from a vehicle. Traffic Escort Wardens must be highly independent, exercise sound judgment, and effectively manage interactions with various stakeholders, including transport operators and the public.

Rates: $50 per hour plus Super, plus allowances/penalty rates (upon completion of training)
Location: Perth-based with FIFO travel to Regional WA
Duration: 3–6 month contract with possible extension
Type: Temporary casual contract (no leave entitlements – casual loading included in rate)

Key Responsibilities
Escort Oversized Loads: Safely escort large, oversized loads across regional and metropolitan areas, often at slow speeds, while adhering to road regulations.
Traffic Management: Stop and direct traffic as necessary, ensuring the safety of all road users and minimizing disruptions to normal traffic flow.
Independent Decision-Making: Work autonomously, utilizing problem-solving skills to address unforeseen challenges while on the road.
Permit Compliance: Review heavy vehicle permits to verify compliance with all conditions and take appropriate action to rectify any deficiencies.
Effective Communication: Maintain clear and professional communication with transport operators, road users, and other stakeholders to facilitate smooth operations.
Incident Reporting: Prepare written reports, including post-trip documentation and incident/accident reports, as required.
Technology Use: Operate a laptop and utilize Microsoft Office applications to complete required job documentation.

Training Period
Rate: $40.63 per hour plus Super will be paid during the training period
Duration: 8-12 weeks (estimate)

Required Experience & Skills
Essential Requirements:
  • To be successful in this role, candidates must demonstrate:
  • Proven ability to drive long distances, up to 15 hours per day, in compliance with fatigue management regulations.
  • Experience working independently and making informed decisions in high-pressure situations.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with transport operators, road users, and the public.
  • Competence in using laptops and Microsoft Office software to complete administrative tasks.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Previous experience in traffic management or escorting oversized loads.
  • Familiarity with the State Road Network and its regulations.
  • Willingness and ability to travel and work away from home for up to 10 consecutive days.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • Full working rights within Australia
  • Current “C” Class Driver’s Licence
  • Current National Police Clearance
  • Willing to undergo Drug and Alcohol testing prior to commencement
  • White Card
  • Online Microsoft Office testing will be completed prior to your application being submitted
